KGATLENG DISTRICT COUNCIL - Mochudi, Botswana

Famous for Matsieng footprints which belong to a legendary giant and Tswana ancestor who emerged from the earth's centre with his people and animals to inhabit the world. The footprints lie imprinted on some rocks in a protected area just 3km north of Mochudi. There is also Phuthadikobo Museum. This museum is housed where it was formerly the Bakgatla National School and is named after the hill on which it is located. The Phuthadikobo museum was established in 1976 by Sandy Grant in conjunction with the local community and with the encouragement of Chief Linchwe II of the Bakgatla. It has the distinction of being the first district museum in the country.
